What's up?
Fri Jan 11 at the Crossroads Coffeehouse in Poco, Simon Trevelyan and Friends “Nobody Knows the trouble I seen: Negro spirituals and readings from the days of slavery in America.
Crossroads' winter/spring 2008 schedule is attached. Lots of great performers in the next few weeks. Address in the attachment (look for the Dairy Queen).
Rogue Folk present Laura Love, Sat Jan 12 at St. James Hall. Two performers with Laura will be well known to many of you: Barbara Lamb, fiddler fatale; and Dave Keenan, master of so many instruments, also a Downtown Mtn Boy. Rounding out the group, I think, is Jen Todd. www.roguefolk.bc.ca
What else?
The Movable Music School winter '08 series starts up later this month. A great range of classes. See the attachment. This is a great way to learn an instrument or vocals, or to try a new musical direction. Classes are held at a house over 6 weeks (the vocal classes go for 10 weeks, I guess those singers just can't shut up once they've opened up!). Thanks Rosemary.
I forgot last time, it's time to sign up for the Georgia Strait Guitar Workshop Spring Jam, March 7th - 9th, 2008 at Camp Alexandra, Crescent Beach, BC. This is a fantastic way to get exposure to a wide range of guitar styles. But don't delay, it fills up mighty fast! See the attachment. Thanks Alan.
Planning ahead for Cadillac Sky at The ACT in Maple Ridge, Thurs Feb 21? Tickets are available on line at www.theactmapleridge.org or by phone 604 476 2787. Book now for the best seats in the house, ACT's mailout went to the posties yesterday for delivery.
Now here is the treat....
For a live in-studio Cadillac Sky concert, tune into CMT.COM's netcast "Unplugged at Studio 330" on January 22. The show will be available on demand from January 22 forward. A "sneak peek" is available for the week prior to netcast as of January 15. Here's the link: www.cmt.com/music/unplugged/performance/mayo_aimee/1578686/performance.jhtml
One more treat.....
C-Sky's music video of Born Lonesome, previously only available in the U.S. of CMT's cable tv station has now been posted to You Tube. Here's the link: youtube.com/watch?v=ZXrblHqXod8
Thanks Ron. I saw them at Wintergrass last year, they are a great, energetic band.
Steve Alexander says his CD is now on iTunes. And check out his "nonliner notes" (since you don't get them when you download!) at acousticflatpickguitar.blogspot.com/index.html
And I'm looking forward to that "picking event" sometime in the spring, Steve.
Looking for that perfect life mate? Something woody you can hardly wait to hold when you get home? When you wake up? Before you go to bed? Gerald might have what you want. He has a couple of nice Martins he's selling from his collection. A mid 70s Martin D35, an early 80s Martin D28 and a 70 Martin 000-18. Oh, that's more than a couple. All guitars have been lovingly cared for, are in great shape, and are ready to play. All three at $2200 (that's each!). They all have that really open vintage Martin tone. Gerald can be reached at 604-341-7506.
Cheers,
Garry
